Leader among iGaming software developers and providers International Game Technology (IGT) and Taiwanese smartphone designer HTC are to partner on the upcoming VR tournament platform for casinos.

The Taiwanese corporation is spreading its influence in the VR sector with the help of the absolute forerunner in the iGaming world IGT in order to promote its Vive hardware and software power as a new competitive VR initiative.

This project will enable players to compete for real money stakes.

HTC’s Steady Extension

HTC has recently revealed its Vive Pro headset, which has accentuated the company’s devotion to the corporate market and its desire to extend to the out-of-home immersive entertainment network.

Establishing its reputation as a spearhead in the VR department, the Taiwan-based corporation is also closely affiliated with Bandai Namco’s VR Zone franchise.

Additionally, HTC proudly launched its Viveport Arcade last year, which is a platform created for the distribution of arcade oriented VR software.

Fruitful Collaboration

Vive Studios, HTC’s VR content division, has announced another leg to this enterprise by building a partnership with IGT, on its fresh Virtual Zone.

As a result of this association, new booths on casino floors equipped with HTC Vive headsets and controllers will be installed. Now players will be enabled to stake real money on the outcome of all matches hoping to win “cash prizes in spirited VR tournaments”, as a press release from HTC put it.

Joel Breton, HTC VIVE VP Global Content, has said, “Arcade-like installations and experiences are skyrocketing across the globe as VR has proven to be a consistent traffic generator in entertainment venues.”

Breton also added that, “By combining IGT’s gaming expertise and the world’s best VR in HTC VIVE, we are launching a combined platform that can deploy the best complete experiences for VR tournaments or stand-alone VR arcades. This is also a huge opportunity for more consumers to be exposed to amazing VR content.”

You do not have to wait for much longer, for the first venue to host a Virtual Zone is Boyd Gaming’s The Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

It contains two standing booths with multiple spectator screens, which allow everyone to see each competitor’s gameplay, plus a dandy combination view of the action. IGT’s own SDK, used by software developers to build out experiences targeting competitive gaming is the underlying logic for the platform, powered by a proprietary set of APIs.
