Germany Approves New Regulations for Online Gambling
Germany has officially approved the new gambling regulations for online gambling. The new rules will go into effect on July 1st, 2021.
However, the most surprising thing about the announcement is that Germany’s new regulatory body will be based in Sachsen-Anhalt. The regulations concerning slots and poker will be quite harsh, as well.
Strict Rules for Slots and Poker
From the moment the rules go into effect, stringent rules will apply to sports betting, online poker, and online casino games. In sports betting, players will face certain limitations towards the final result and next scorer markets. With slots and poker, however, the situation will be even harsher.
In slot games, the authority body will impose a strict €1 bet per spin. German players will not have the ability to place higher bets. Furthermore, Autoplay and jackpots are entirely off the table. These options will not be banned once the rules go live.
On the other hand, each state will have autonomy over table games. They will be able to decide whether they will allow table games in the country, as well as lotteries.
Nevertheless, all casinos working in Germany will have a mandatory deposit limit of €1,000. This affects marketing and advertisements as well – no casino promoting can happen between 6 AM and 9 PM.
A Tense Situation
Germany approved the new rules and accepted the new regulation set without many changes. However, now all states must ratify the set, and then send it to the European Commission for ratification as well. Once all these processes finish, the country will be ready to accept the new rules fully.
In the meantime, the State Treaty will be active until the moment Germany introduces the new regulations. Although the State Treaty has been in force since January, the committee has not yet accepted any license applicant so far. There are currently 30 pending requests, with 20 more to come in the upcoming months.
