Penn Online Entertainment, the online gaming subsidiary of Penn National Gaming, has selected International Game Technology (IGT) and its PlayDigital as its tech partner amidst its plans for the launch in the first quarter in 2019.

The need for the partnership emerged from the newly regulated Pennsylvania online gaming market. Penn National saw the opportunity to expand the scope of its entertainment offering and at the same time IGT will extend the reach of their PlayCommand platform and other digital solutions.

Penn National was the first operator to apply for the license for Pennsylvania sports betting and has been approved to conduct it as well as online gambling. Sport betting will soon be allowed but online gambling will probably wait until early 2019. NetEnt announced last week that they signed with Penn as their first partner in Pennsylvania and IGT followed the same steps.

Enrico Drago, senior vice-president for PlayDigital at IGT, said: “The newly regulated Pennsylvania online gaming market presents an exciting opportunity for IGT to extend the success of our PlayCommand platform and PlayCasino to Penn National as it expands the scope of its entertainment offering.”

The Pen Online Entertainment division has signed a five-year deal with IGT under which its brand HollywoodCasino.com will be powered by PlayDigital’s full suite of digital gaming products, platform and services.

“We’re excited to leverage IGT’s platform and content for our online gaming launch in Pennsylvania.”

Chris Sheffield, managing director of PIV and senior vice president of PNG, commented the deal.

“The flexibility and reliability of the PlayCommand platform, coupled with the proven game library within IGT’s PlayCasino, give us confidence that HollywoodCasino.com will deliver the same caliber of world-class gaming entertainment that our players have come to love in our land-based casinos.”

Players of Hollywood Casino will enjoy IGT’s PlayCasino and popular titles like Wheels of Fortune, Elephand King, Ocean Magic and Cleopatra. Penn will also deploy IGT’s PlayBingo and PlayPoker so IGT’s proven digital solutions will quickly address players’ needs not just across online gaming but also on sports betting and on-premise mobile gaming.

IGT has landed a similar deal recently after it was appointed to power FanDuel’s platform in New Jersey.

FanDuel Group emerged from the merger of FanDuel, a daily fantasy sports operator, and UK-listed Paddy Power Betfair. The deal will see integrating Betfair’s pricing, trading and risk management capabilities into a bespoke interface on the IGT platform, all of which will operate under the FanDuel brand in New Jersey.
