Lotteriinspektionen, the Swedish gambling regulator announced that 60 license applications were submitted to date and that it may not be able to process them all before the Sweden re-regulated market opens in January 2019.
Of the 60 applications received to date, 55 relate to internet gaming and betting although many lack the required level of information. The regulator has been receiving a number of questions about the language used in the license application document since the application window opened on 1 July.
Those questions mainly related to responsible gaming and match-fixing, and the regulator didn’t manage to answer them all. The aim is to process all the applications so they don’t have the needed time to address each question.
Lotteriinspektioned advised applicants to ensure their strategies would contribute to a “safe and secure gambling market” since they failed to provide advice on how legislation should be interpreted regarding the gambling marketing.
After the regulator reviewed the applications, some of them were sent back to applicants for “comprehensive additions”.
Those who fail to send back the additional information in the assigned time may not receive their license by 1 January 2019. Since there is no limit in the number of licenses that could be awarded in the country, the regulator invited all interesting parties to continue sending new applications.
Ahead of the Swedish market opening its doors to regulated online gaming in 2019, many suppliers are securing their presence including Yggdrasil Gaming.
This innovative supplier has made a partnership deal with Svenska Spel Sport & Casino to supply them with its leading casino slots offering. Yggdrasil’s popular slot games including Tut’s Twister, Penguin City and one the latest – Hanzo’s Dodjo – will reach Swedish players as soon the market opens on 1 January. This is a great move for Yggdrasil which boosted its presence in the market.
Fredrik Elmqvist, CEO, Yggdrasil, said:
“We’re really happy to have agreed terms with SvenskaSpel ahead of the Swedish market regulating next year. Our strategy to expand our regulated market footprint is ahead of schedule and demand from operators across a wide variety of regulated and newly regulating markets is rapidly growing. We will be ready to go well ahead of the January 2019 launch date.”
As a trusted and most established gaming operator in Sweden, Svenska Spel includes many brands like Lotto, Triss, Oddset, Vegas and Casino Cosmopol. Adding Yggdrasil well-known titles will increase players’ attention and retention.
“Yggdrasil was an obvious choice when selecting a casino gaming solutions partner. The innovative offering performs well in regulated markets and we are confident they will attract a large following in Sweden.”, Fredrik Wastenson, MD, Svenska Spel Sport & Casino, said.
