The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) and the Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen) have announced they have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The aim of the MoU is to enhance the cooperation between the regulatory bodies. The memorandum provides groundwork for two regulators to share best practices on regulatory policies and procedures.
The agreement would also make sure that the regulators would work together on the general policy and the supervisory issues. In addition to this, both regulatory bodies have agreed to share any information, the enforcements or regulatory actions that can potentially have a negative impact on the remote gambling operator.
Moreover, the cooperation would also cover the matters of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing. They will also pay attention to betting, gaming, and other transactional data.
UK Gambling Commission chief executive Neil McArthur said this about the new MoU with Spelinspektionen:
“We have excellent relations with other gambling regulators from across the world and our new link up with the Swedish Gambling Authority will give more opportunities to share good practice on a whole host of regulatory issues, cooperate closely and take shared action where appropriate.”
Camilla Rosenberg, director-general of Spelinspektionen stated:
“This is an important agreement for us. We have common interests in many areas. By opening the communication channels between the authorities we become stronger in our supervisory activities. This is the beginning of broad and long-term cooperation.”
Earlier this year Spelinspektionen, as a further step to prevent the illegal gambling, has signed memoranda of understanding with regulators in other jurisdictions. This includes entering MoU with Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), as well as Gibraltar Gambling Division, which enabled them to work better on matters of shared interest and policy areas.
