Two things Pragmatic Play excels at: Halloween and fishing slots. And they obviously had to combine that into one slot not once, but twice – hence we now have Big Bass Halloween 2. It’s a 5×3 slot with 10 paylines, so the layout is pretty conventional. What is not conventional is the choice of features. it’s a mix and match of Wilds, Money Symbols, Multipliers and various modifiers combined through one Free Spins feature. You stand to win up to 5,000x the stake, which is a neat payout for the highly volatile slot.
Free Spins are always fun, but the mix Pragmatic Play pulled is even more fun considering there are all these various modifiers that keep your eyes glued to the screen while Money symbols splash around the grid in all their Multiplier glory. Sure, it’s a repeat performance, as we’ve seen so many Big Bass slots that some features are overlapping in our minds. Still, we choose to view this game as yet another fishing game that’s a bit spooky thanks to its Halloween glow up.
Things would not be as fun if the payout were under 5,000x. The studio understands its audience, and they know that rinsing and repeating features quickly gets old unless there’s a sizeable bonus we can catch whilst wading the Big Bass waters. It’s a solid game, for sure, all things considered. You can bet anything between 0.10 to 250 per round.
SHOW MORESHOW MORESHOW LESSBig Bass is a celebrated franchise for Pragmatic Play. Most of the Big Bass games achieved a certain level of popularity – some are more popular than others, of course, but overall, any game that gets slapped with a Big Bass banner gets more attention than other games that roll out of Pragmatic Play.
Quantity does not guarantee quality, so we were kind of on the fence with this one. Big Bass Halloween 2 is a second Halloween slot that mixes in Big Bass visuals and features with the spooky vibe of Halloween, so we knew we were getting updated visuals to match the gory vibe of the holiday.
Hence, the new backdrop swapped out the clear waters for murky, yellowish, clearly contaminated waters full of rusty symbols that spin on the grid. The grid consists of 5×3 reels crawling with insects, chainsaws, and sinking cars, and some odd-looking boxes. These are the high-rank symbols whose payouts go from 20x to 200x the stake. Fish are included in that mix as well, acting as Money Symbols (more on them later). Besides these symbols, the grid also showcases royals that in true low-rank fashion pay between 5x and 10x.
The game is highly volatile with a 96.71% RTP. There are lower models too, but this one’s the default and peak. You can bet anything from $0.10 to $250 per spin.
Although the main game feature is the Free Spins round, there are other boosters that appear such as Wilds and Multipliers, and Money Symbols. These all appear during the Spins, though. You can also purchase Spins via Bonus Buy.
The round officially begins with 3 Scatters, but even if you get 2, you might trigger a third by catching it with a hook or during Respins. Scatters may move one position down without exiting the grid. If you get 3, 4, or 5 Scatters, you get 10, 15, or 20 spins, respectively.
Before the start of the spins, you also get a random number of modifiers (between 0 and 5). Here are te potential modifiers you may hit:
In Free Spins, Wilds are important because they collect Money Symbols which are worth from 2x to 5000x. Wilds are collected as well. For every 4th Wilds you collect, you get 10 extra Spins, as well as a Multiplier for the Money symbols you previously collected.
These are also split into levels: Level 2 Multiplier is 2x, Level 3 Multiplier is 3x, and Level 4 Multiplier is 10x. You can retrigger spins up to the 4th level.
One of the modifiers can bring in extra Dynamite, Hooks and Chainsaws. These three refer to three bonus round features.
The Dynamite Spin feature adds random Fish symbols to the grid at the end of a spin when there has been no wins and no fish, but there is a Fisherman Wild.
Hook randomly adds Fisherman symbols at the end of the spin when there hasn’t been any but there have been fish. The reverse of the Dynamite.
Chainsaw is triggered when there are Fisherman Wilds but no fish. At the end of the spin, Fisherman Wilds remain on the grid but all other symbols transform into something else. This gives you an extra chance to win something good.
If you want to gain entry to Free Spins, you can pay 100x and get them via Bonus Buy.
We repeat the question: did we really need yet another Big Bass slot, and a second Halloween slot at that? For Pragmatic Play, the answer is probably yes, but for us… we don’t really know. Yes, the game is a solid one: good payouts, solid graphics, and a good Free Spins feature with loads to do when you start triggering the Money Symbols, Wilds, Multipliers, Dynamite, Hooks, etc.
But the game still seems like a carbon copy of Big Bass Splash, especially in terms of features. That doesn’t make it a bad game per se, but some players might be bored with the fact that there’s yet another Halloween-meets-fishing slot. But hey, others will surely love it!
Ultimately, the saving grace is that Pragmatic Play churns out so many games each month that it’s virtually impossible to get bored with the selection. Hence, if you don’t like this one, you can switch to another recent release without missing a beat. At least there’s that.
