Biting sarcasm is not the only Nolimit City specialty; there’s also dark and gory games to look forward to, too. Blood & Shadow 2 is the sequel to Blood & Shadow, a 2023 release with the same number of reels, but lower RTP and payouts. In the sequel, Nolimit City pulled all the stops to deliver a bloody and ominous game. To the best of their ability, they’ve created a 5-reel beast with 1204 ways that can go up to 3,125 ways, with wins reaching up to 16,161x the stake.
The game is brimming with features. There’s the famous Ritual Bar progression meter with 5 levels, which gradually eliminates lower-value icons to leave only the higher ups. Then we have Candle Spins and the Sticky Wilds, which are then transformed into Reign of Terror Spins once you get to level 4 of the Rutual Bar. Next, we have xSplit symbols – the Dagger and the Guillotine. Split icons are rewarded with Multipliers worth up to 32x. Lastly, we have Halifax Gibbet and Reign of Terror Spins, full of terror. You can also purchase features via Bonus Buy. The studio also included a Nolimit Booster, a type of Golden or Ante bet which increases winning chances.
All things considered; we have a wild game on our hands. If you can look past the gory visuals and dark details, you are surely going to enjoy the raw power of Blood & Shadow 2. And if you love the theme, then you are in for a treat. Check out the rest of the game below.
SHOW MORESHOW MORESHOW LESS
If you thought you’ve seen blood and gore from Nolimit City, get ready for Blood & Shadow 2. The renowned sequel features a 5×4 grid with 1024 ways. That’s the starting point, but there’s an entire row beneath the original grid that’s locked. When you unlock said row, you will play with 3,125 ways to win.
Updated visuals are also a thing here, which is great considering there had been only a year between the debut and sequel. Eagle-eyed players will surely spot similarities between the two and granted – there are many. So many that it’s not until you get to the xSplits that things start to look different.
Symbols in the game feature a 5-icon set of low pays which pay up to 0.40x, while medium pays such as animals etc are worth 0.60x to 1.20x. The mediums also have updated versions, which are basically the same except they look a bit scarier and pay 2x-5x. Wilds also pay up to 5x.
The game uses a cascading mechanic, which means winning icons are removed from the grid to make room for new symbols.
Before you start betting, you should know that the game has extremely high variance and a 96.09% RTP. Bets are standard, as they go from $0.20 to $100 per spin. But there’s also a Nolimit Booster, which is a type of booster bet which increases winning chances by 3x, but also costs a bit more than a regular bet. You can also pay for Spins via Buy Bonus.
Woah, there’s a lot to unpack here. First we have the Ritual Bar, which you might know from the debut. The same goes for Candle Spins and Sticky Wilds. However, xSplits add a new layer of excitement, as they also go with Multipliers. There are also two types of Free Spins.
The Ritual Bar, used in the debut as well, is a progression bar with 5 levels. Every time you progress to the next level, the bar resets but you can carry over points previously collected. For the Ritual Bar, you have the locked bottom row with Wilds. On each new level, you unlock one Wild.
Here’s how many points you need for each level:
But how to fill the progress bar? Get points by collecting Scatters and winning combos of medium and high pays. Every medium-value icon is worth 1 point, while high-value icons are worth 2 points each. Scatters are worth 10 points each. On every new level, one low-pay symbol is removed from the grid, and instead you get a medium-pay icon.
Candle Spins are available on Level 2, and every time you get a new level, you get 2 extra Candle Spins. When you reach Level 4, you are transferred to Reign of Terror Spins, and you get 6 of those spins.
In Candle Spins, the Ritual Bar is more or less the same, except now Wilds can also drop onto the grid and become Sticky. They cease being Sticky once they participate in a win/you change the bet amount.
xSplit is a famous Nolimit City invention. Two types of xSplit symbols may appear: Daggers and Guillotine. Daggers split the row, while Guillotine symbols split icons on the corresponding reel. Moreover, they always carry a 2x Multiplier. All icons that get split into two by one of these two symbols gets the Multiplier. Moreover, once they split, both Daggers and the Guillotine transform into Wilds. The highest possible Multiplier you can get through this feature is 32x.
There are two types of Free Spins besides Candle Spins. First, we have Halifax Gibbet Spins, which you can acquire through Buy Bonus. This immediately starts at Level 3 with 6 Candle Spins. In Halifax Spins, randomly chosen high icons replace 3 types of medium and low symbols.
Next we have Reign of Terror Spins. Upon entry, you get 6 Spins and now, the Ritual Bar is eliminated. Instead, you get the full 5×5 grid, filled with high-value icons only. Every Scatter adds a +1 Spin.
Nolimit Booster is the Ante bet adding a 2.50x increase to the bet amount. However, it triples your winning chances for triggering the Reign of Terror Spins. Moreover, the game starts at Level 1, but if you want the xBet 2, you’ll have to pay 66x. this option guarantees a Level 5 Spin with Dagger and Guillotines.
If you want the Buy Bonus, you can pay 100x to get Halifax Gibbet Spins, 500x for Reign of Terror, or 240x for a Lucky Draw (which might trigger one of these two).
Blood & Shadow 2 is a sequel, so it’s bound to share at least some traits with its debut game. However, after a careful consideration of everything you get with the second game, we concluded it’s a good game in its own right. For starters, you can win up to 16,161x the stake, which is a major step up from the previous title.
But big payouts, or better yet, the promise of big payouts, is not everything. While the visuals remained close to the original (with considerable updates), the introduction of xSplits and Multipliers is making the game a bit livelier. There are so many things to look forward to here. Hence, we consider the game a good one if you love the debut or if you enjoy the kind of potential Nolimit City can offer with its releases.
