Spooky season is always a fantastic time for slot enthusiasts. Most of our beloved game developers launches at least one bone-chilling game, and Big Time Gaming’s contribution for 2024 is Boo. Boo is a bit unusual – the game features a 4×4 grid with 256 ways to win, a high RTP and an even higher win potential. The luckiest of players might win up to 47,050x the stake – but only if you don’t get too spooked.
Game features start with Wilds and end with Free Spins. There’s also a Buy Bonus option if you don’t like waiting for the features to trigger. Wilds and Free Spins both activate Multipliers, which is how you might get to the game’s max winning capacity. Otherwise, it’s lot less intense – 705x is the average you can hit in the base game.
It’s a high-risk-high-reward kind of game, clocking a high variance level and a 96.54% RTP. Wagers go from $0.10 to $10 per round, which is not too high but that is why the payout is so high. Check out more in our review below.
SHOW MORESHOW MORESHOW LESSHalloween slots such as Boo frequently boast cool game features, and that’s their ticket to the Hot & Popular slot lists at casinos. However, it seems that Big Time Gaming decided to go a different way and instead incorporated a 4×4 grid with 256 ways to win. That’s certainly not what we are used to seeing in slots too often, but we have to say that it doesn’t change gameplay that much. It makes it funnier, sure, but not really that innovative.
Either way, you get a 4×4 grid with 16 symbols you are supposed to compact into one or more winning ways (there are 256 in total). If you do, the payout will range from 0.20x to 0.40x the stake for low-rank, and 0.80x to 2x for high-rank icons. Low icons are a collection of card royals, while high icons are just four different coloured ghosts.
Wins in the game use the reaction engine which means winning icons are blasted off the grid to make way for new icons. When new symbols fill the grid, they might trigger another win. This keeps happening until there are no new winning combos.
Like we said, the game is highly volatile with a 96.54% RTP which means you are in for an adventure. But please keep in mind that the bets cannot go lower than $0.10 or higher than $10 per spin.
You can use the Buy Bonus feature to speed up the process of winning Free Spins.
Game features in Boo are not plentiful, but they are keeping things fun. There are Wilds, Multipliers, and Free Spins.
Wilds in the game appear as regular Wilds replacing any other type of icon on the grid. These look like multicoloured Ghosts that appear on all reels except the first one. Sometimes, they may carry a Multiplier as well. When they carry a Multiplier, its value might be anything up to 4x. The win that this Wild participated in is multiplied by the value of the Multiplier.
Pumpkins (because this is a Halloween slot) are the Scatters. Hit 3 of these and you get yourself 12 Free Spins. During Free Spins, all positions have Multipliers on the grid whose value increases when you get extra Ghost Wilds.
Namely, they are present throughout the feature, but if a Wild that lands on the grid creates a winning symbol on the first symbol (not a cascade/reaction), some winning positions Multipliers increase. They can go up by 1x, 2x, or 3x (randomly assigned). If it happens on a cascade/reaction, the increase is 1x. Moreover, when the spins first start, the positions that had the winning Scatters get a Multiplier that might be 2x, 3x, or 4x.
You can also retrigger Free Spins by landing 3 Scatters more during the spins, which will give you 3 more spins. You’ll also get extra Multipliers.
You can purchase 12 Spins for 90x the stake or double it to 24 spins for 500x the stake.
There were high expectations for the Boo slot, we’ll be honest. By now, we have gotten used to seeing Big Time Gaming slots dish out insane potential and payouts, and they always feature a grand mechanic or two. For Boo, that part was missing, as there are no special features other than the good old Wilds, Multipliers, or Free Spins.
Still, the game managed to keep us entertained, and we generally like the Ghost vibe with the spook of Halloween. It’s a fun game, and the fact that it has insane potential certainly helps. However, we are not sure about the possibility to actually hit that jackpot as the game is exceptionally volatile.
