You’ve met Big Bass Halloween 2 (and all other Big Bass games) so by now, you’ve become familiar with the concept of collection games. Kingdom Below is one of such games, except it was not built by Pragmatic Play and has a somewhat better setup. Namely, it’s a Play’n GO game, set in the depths of Hell (which is why we are in the Kingdom… below). Players get a 5×4 setup with 12 paylines to try and catch prizes floating through the lava.
The Beast, our star, floats above the grid in the hopes of spearing one of three features: Grab, Slide n Grab, and Under Reel. These are all neat and dandy, but the focus is on Free Spins. Free Spins come with 8 possible modifiers, 4 of which can be activated during the round, tops. As you go, you collect symbols, which helps by adding extra spins or similar goodies to your tally. There’s no Buy Bonus option, as this is not something Play’n GO is famous for.
Ultimately, you stand to gain up to 6,000x the stake. That’s good, great actually. The game lets you wager a bet worth between $0.10 and $50, which might seem subdued, but it’s a “barely” high variance slot with 96.25% RTP.
SHOW MORESHOW MORESHOW LESSThe visuals are easy to explain, but gameplay can be a bit confusing if you are new here.
So, visuals: instead of a fishy scene, we find ourselves deep in the Earth’s crust, somewhere it’s getting very, extremely hot by the minute. No calm waters to be seen here, only lava and rocks. The setup showcases a 5-reel grid with 4 rows, which gives you a total of 12 ways to generate a win. Atop the grid is the Beast that floats with their trident, ready to puncture a hole in an unsuspecting symbol, thus collecting it (or grabbing it). Before you even begin playing with the beast, pick a bet that’s between $0.10 and $50 to start a round.
The game falls just after medium variance, which means it’s highly volatile, but barely. The RTP peaks at 96.25%, which is the industry standard. Card royals, rocky formations slapped with a 10-A royal, pay 10x for 5 OAK. All other symbols, in flames, pay between 50x and 200x for the same number of matching icons. There are no Wilds, but you do get Scatters.
The collect symbol gameplay is a bit more complicated, so you should get ready for the adventure.
The Beast that seamlessly moves across the parapet above the grid grabs some symbols. It can actually trigger one of three features:
Grab: which grabs all prizes from the grid;
Slide N Grab: which grabs all prizes from the grid and multiplies the payout by the number of reels that contained a prize;
Under Reel: which pulls a mystery prize grab from beneath the grid. This might be either a worthy prize, or worthless, but in Free Spins this might be a Scatter too.
The Grab prizes, or the prizes that the Beast may collect, carry values worth 1x to 50x. if they land in a winning payline, they might also hit you with a regular payout worth up to 40x.The first two can happen at the same time, but only Slide N Grab is a standalone feature.
Free Spins are unlocked with at least 3 Scatters, which is when you get 10 Spins. Before Spins start, you get a Pick a Fire round where you select random modifiers out of 8 options.
Modifiers can be either normal or upgraded. The regular versions are +5 Spins, More Grab triggers, More Slide N Grab, More Slide symbols, No Lowest pay symbol, 1 guaranteed Grab symbol per spin, no win guarantee, 2x Grab Multiplier, and 1 sticky grab symbol for 1 spin.
The upgraded versions offer even better perks.
You can get a maximum of 4 modifiers during the rounds, but only one version of each modifier is possible (no mixing and matching of the regular and upgraded versions of the same modifier!).
During Spins, you also get a 12-position trail, and you make progress on the trail by grabbing scatters. The Beast can only collect Scatters if they align with the beast during a Slide N Grab or Under Reel features. Milestones on the trail entail either 10 extra picks or 10 extra spins Whenever you progress to the next step, you get a Multiplier valued 2x, 3x, 10x. There’s a cap for the number of Free Spins of 50, meaning you can play a maximum of 50 spins and then it’s done.
Kingdom Below might be a fiery game, but it’s also a very fun and engaging one that you will probably like if you are into games with symbol collection. There are several ways to score a win, but there’s also no way to enter Free Spins except waiting patiently for them to unlock with enough Scatters. The game does not offer a Buy Bonus, but you don’t need one.
We are satisfied with the Kingdom Below game, mostly because it used a very used mechanic but gave it a cool twist with the visuals, so the game is not like other games with this engine. All in all, a solid one for us. Check it out at the nearest online casino, but be prepared to get toasted if you are not careful enough.
