The Slotfather: Book of Wins by Betsoft is a 5×3 online slot machine that features the patented Hold & Win bonus round. It’s the third game with the Slotfather brand, which references the acclaimed mafia movie, The Godfather. The first and second Slotfather games came out back in 2017, and both were relatively simple from a mechanical standpoint. This trend continues with this game, too, which is relatively straightforward.
It features free spins and a bombastic bonus round, but that’s pretty much it for special features. Additionally, the bonus round will be familiar to players who have come across the “book of…” style of online slots. The Scatter and Wild are rolled into one, and they’re responsible for triggering the bonus round.
Despite its straightforward nature, The Slotfather: Book of Wins is still a highly volatile game. Although you can expect a hit once every 5 spins or so, the payouts in most cases are quite small. They have the potential to be huge, though, which is why the first two games were so popular in the first place. All of this adds up to a solid 96.60% RTP.
SHOW MORESHOW MORESHOW LESSThis game is all about personality thanks to its distinct visual style and stylish presentation. We can safely say that it’s an improvement over Slotfather 2 in terms of graphics. The hand-drawn characters and back alleys in which they operate look crisper than ever and make the perfect backdrop for our dastardly deeds.
The base game itself is as simple as they come. The Slotfather: Book of Wins features 5 reels with 3 rows each, which is a fairly common setup in the world of online slots. Your goal is to hit matching symbols from left to right, and you’ll need at least 3 symbols in a line to register a win. Additionally, only symbols arranged along pre-set paylines can count as a winning line. There are 10 of these, which is a solid number for the relatively small game board.
Use the buttons at the bottom of the screen to set your stake before playing. The betting range is relatively narrow with $0.20-$40, but it’s still suitable for most budgets.
Overall, the gameplay in this version of the Slotfather is similar to other Betsoft titles with the Hold & Win feature, such as the recent Take the Vault – Hold & Win.
There are two types of special symbols in this game, and each is tied to a bonus game mode.
Firstly we have the bonus symbols, which are shaped like 9mm bullet casings. Every Bonus symbol contains a random prize ranging from 0.3x to 2,000x. They don’t really do anything in the base game. However, if you hit 6 of them in one spin anywhere on the board, the Hold & Win bonus round kicks off.
During the bonus round, all regular symbols are removed from the game, with only Bonus symbols and blank spaces remaining. Each position on the 5×3 grid is turned into a reel of its own and starts spinning independently. You initially get 3 spins, and this number resets back to 3 any time you hit any bonus on any reel. If you spin 3 times in a row with no hits, the bonus round ends. All of the bonuses collected up to that point are summed up and paid out.
Additionally, Scatter symbols also work as Wilds. They substitute any other symbol on the game to make winning lines. However, if 3 or more appear on the board at one time, you’re awarded Free Spins. You can get 10, 15, or 20 free spins for 3, 4, or 5 Scatters, respectively. During free spins, a single type of symbol is randomly selected to become an Expanding symbol. Every time it appears on the reels during free spins, it expands to cover the entire reel.
Although the Slotfather Book of Wins casino game oozes style, it’s nothing really special gameplay-wise. Sure, you can purchase both the Hold & Win and Free Spins, which is always appreciated. Other than that, the game is a collection of features we’ve seen in earlier Betsoft games. Hold and Win is an established brand at this point, and Free Spins are one of the most common features in slots.
If you still remember the first two Slotfather games, you may appreciate the facelift the games received. Otherwise, you probably won’t remember Slotfather Book of Wins too long.
