Vampy Party is a Pragmatic Play slot game that combines top-tier visual flair with relatively unique features. That said, the gameplay elements themselves are nothing we haven’t seen before from Pragmatic, and the underlying math model emphasizes streaks of lucky outcomes. From the outside, the RTP looks painfully average, and a 5,000x maximum payout won’t bring a lot of attention considering just how volatile the game is. It’s not a bad game by any means, but our experience with the game felt quite flat, and we doubt it will really stand out from the tide of Pragmatic slots we see every week.
Our Vampy Party slot review details our time with the game. We’ll cover how it works in terms of its features while focusing on how it compares to other top slots.
On a surface level, Vampy Party certainly looks interesting. As the name implies, the theme puts you in the middle of a dance party hosted and attended mostly by creatures of the night, complete with a retro-ish focus on disco. It’s not the most gripping concept ever, but hey – it looks pretty and it plays smoothly, so we can’t complain. Plus, the bright colours and funky soundtrack give it a bit of character, which is something Pragmatic Play slots tend to lack.
Looking over the basic stats of Vampy Party, however, reveals some of its issues. 96% RTP is dead average, but that’s not really the biggest problem. The game is just highly volatile. Players love volatile slots, but a 5,000x max payout is just not exciting for something so risky – and the game is risky. Check out the gameplay features below to find out why, exactly.
SHOW MORESHOW MORESHOW LESSThe Vampy Party slot opens up with a non-standard reel layout. There are 6 reels in total, but they have varying positions per reel, so the whole board is shaped like a diamond. To win, players need to hit 3 or more matching symbols on 3 or more connected reels, going from left to right. That said, there are no fixed paylines, meaning the symbols’ position on the reels does not matter. This adds up to 3,600 ways to win in total.
The rows come in a pattern of 3-4-5-5-4-3. This is not exactly an uncommon approach, but it does impact gameplay in several ways. First of all, your chances of winning something are smaller than the 3,600 paylines are implying because all winning combinations have to start with one of the three leftmost symbols. This is compounded by the fact that most big wins are gated behind Tumbling Reels and other special features.
The most important base game feature in Vampy Party is the tumbling reels. Any winning symbols are removed from the game and make way for new icons to tumble down from the top. The idea is to allow players to win several times in a row during the same round.
Every tumble applies a multiplier that increases payouts in the next one. This multiplier is doubled for every subsequent tumble, up to a maximum of 1,024x.
For example, the first win in a new spin receives its baseline payouts, as seen on the in-game paytable. If you win after the symbols tumble down, the payouts are doubled. If you win yet again after this new tumble, payouts are quadrupled, and so on until no more tumbling occurs.
Hitting 3, 4, or 5 Scatter symbols awards the player 12 free spins. The number of scatters does not increase the number of free spins you get. However, it does increase the starting multiplier during those free spins.
In free spins, you already have a guaranteed multiplier during the initial spin, before any tumbles occur. Tumbling doubles that multiplier just like in the base game. The initial multiplier is set to 8x if free spins were won with 3 scatters, or 16x, 32x, and 64x for 4, 5, or 6 scatters, respectively.
Furthermore, you can double this multiplier even further by playing the gamble minigame once you trigger free spins. Hitting 3+ scatters during the free spins round resets your free spins back to 12 and doubles the multiplier.
While it has some fairly engaging ideas, Vampy Party seems to fall flat in its execution. Simply put, most payouts are extremely low before you factor in the multipliers. These are hidden behind tumbles, which don’t happen nearly often enough because there are only 3 positions on the all-important first reels.
The Free Spins round is the standout feature here precisely because it introduces multipliers on the initial spin. Thankfully, you can buy free spins in Vampy Party, which doesn’t have any effect on the game’s overall RTP.
All in all, the ideas behind this game are pretty solid and sound great on paper. Once you start playing, though, most of it feels rather disappointing, and the best way to engage it is to just repeatedly buy free spins. Not everyone likes to play that way, and it can cost quite a bit just to get started.
