William Hill Obtains License to Provide Sports Betting Services in Mississippi
With PASPA being overturned, resulting in an abrupt change in the gambling scene across the USA, Magnolia State is swiftly wrapping up the process of introducing sports betting platforms to the country’s land-based casinos, with William Hill US and SBTech officially becoming the two sportsbooks to handle the manufacturing and supplies.
In his statement for the media, Deputy Director of Mississippi Gaming Commission, Jay McDaniel, advised that William Hill US is expected to partner with several Penn National Gaming casinos (two more casinos have already started accepting sports wagers on Friday last week and there are three gambling venues currently in line to include sports betting in their offer).
Joint Venture Between William Hill US and Penn?
According to the recently issued statement by Penn, two Mississippi casinos – Boomtown Biloxi and Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast – are good and ready to launch their sportsbooks, designed to meet the highest quality requirements, and described as the “state of the art” platforms. Hollywood Casino Tunica, Resorts Casino Tunica, and 1st Jackpot Casino Tunica will follow on the 24th of August.
Although there are some assumptions regarding the William Hill and Penn link, the “identity” of the sportsbook provider remains a mystery for the time being and Penn is yet to confirm which provider will have the honour of supplying the sports betting solutions to the venues mentioned above. There are, however, indications that negotiations between William Hill and Penn are currently in progress and that partnership between the two is being heavily discussed.
College Sports on the Rise
One of the areas considered to be of particular interest for the local sports enthusiasts are college sports; this is confirmed by Penn’s General Manager Justin Carter, who recently stated that he had been approached with the question about sports betting many times, especially with regards to college athletics.
With the amounting interest for this area of gambling, Carter expressed Penn’s hopes of becoming a go-to betting destination for sports fans in Memphis, Arkansas, and Northern Mississippi.
