William Hill Announces Roger Devlin as New Chairman
A big tide of change is upon William Hill, one of UK and Ireland’s leading sportsbook and casino operators.
Updating the market, the company has announced that current chairman Gareth Davis is leaving William Hill, with effect from 2 April 2018. Commenting on Davis’ departure from the company, Sir Roy Gardner, William Hill Senior Independent Director expressed his gratitude for considerable contribution and commitment to William Hill Group.
“Gareth’s experience, energy and commitment have been of considerable benefit to William Hill as we seek to continue to grow the business online and internationally, and to deliver our strategy. We look forward to working with him in the coming months and wish him well for the future.”, he said.
William Hill decided to call on a gaming industry veteran Roger Devlin who will step in to replace Davis and lead the company forward. Devlin will initially join William Hill’s board as a chairman designate in February, before taking over his full duties from Davis in April.
Devlin boasts a vast experience in the online gaming industry having previously served as a non-executive, executive and chairman in various industry-related companies.
His CV includes roles at Ladbrokes and a private gaming operator Gamesys, whereas Devlin also worked as chairman of leading pub operator and brewer Marston’s PLC. Devlin is also a non-executive director of the Football Association whereas. What’s more, Roger Devlin is working as chair of Sports Information Services (SIS) which is a betting data company under 19.5% ownership by William Hill.
Devlin claims he recognises both immediate and long-term challenges that need to be tackled in a currently extremely volatile international gaming climate but adds he is more than ready to embrace his new role.
“William Hill is a business and brand I have greatly admired during my years in the leisure sector and more recently as Chair of SIS.”, he said.
With the announcement of Roger Devlin as new Chairman, William Hill is rounding off an eventful year which saw the company introduce a number of management changes, including appointments of new boss and finance head back in March.
