HOW TO PLAY April Fury and the Chamber of Scarabs?

The April Fury and the Chamber of Scarabs slot has a surprisingly simple base game. By this, we mean that it is devoid of any extra features besides wilds. The stylish background is well-designed but the excitement ends there when you realize there are no bonus features to modify the basic gameplay loop.

Your only goal is to either trigger a payline win or the two bonus games. There is nothing interesting beyond those two basic slot functions.

Essentially, there are 5 reels and 4 rows with 20 active paylines. Wins are triggered as usual when arranging at least 3 or 2 high-winning identical symbols in one of the fixed paylines. Payouts are scored from left to right and there are 10 regular paying symbols plus a wild.

The 5 low-paying symbols are the standard A, K, Q, J and 10 paying up to 7.50x the bet for 5 in a payline. The 3 medium-winning symbols pay up to 15x the bet. Finally, the 2 high-winning symbols and the wild pay up to 200x the bet and you only need 2 identical ones for a win.

GAME FEATURES

As we mentioned, there are no extra features in the base game besides wilds that substitute for regular symbols. All the excitement is locked behind the two bonus modes which are the Hold & Wins and the free spins. Here is how they work:

  • Hold & Win – Land 6 or more bonus coin symbols anywhere on the reels to trigger this bonus game. Triggering coins are locked and all the other symbols disappear. Then, you get 3 respins to land as many coins as you can that have prize values attached to them from 1x to 500x the bet. Landing at least one resets respins to 3 and when you run out or fill the entire board, the game ends. You will then get the combined payout of all the coins you landed.
  • Free Spins – Land 3, 4 or 5 scatter key symbols and you will get 5, 7 or 9 free spins respectively. Free spins can be retriggered and bought for 90x, 126x or 160x the bet.

Players can trigger the Hold & Win mode from Free Spins but not vice versa. The maximum win for both modes is 4000x the bet with 96.20% RTP and high volatility. As for the betting range, it is anywhere between €0.20 to €100.

All in all, we really like the design and charisma of the April Fury and the Chamber of Scarabs slot by Betsoft. Both the character of April Fury and the overall theme are quite well done. That said we have a slight problem with the lack of interesting extra features in the base game. We feel it is quite barren and the only entertainment value comes from the low chances of trigger Hold & Wins and free spins.

On the positive side, the symbol payouts and the RTP value of 96.20% are all quite great. Furthermore, both bonus modes can yield fantastic rewards up to 4000x the bet. So on the payout side, the April Fury and the Chamber of Scarabs slot is doing fine.
